Where I Have Been: Hopefully the Last Major Life Update for a While :)

Alright… I know my recent (well, semi-recent since it’s literally been 4+ months) posts have been life update-heavy, so I SWEAR this is the last one for a bit (hopefully). I am happy to report I will be BACK to posting weekly for my wonderful subscribers and passive readers alike, and I will also be back to writing additional related content for anyone who feels gracious enough to pay for a membership. SO. Here is what has been going on:

New Job, Thankfully-

I know I just mentioned a new job a couple of posts ago, but that place ended up being a total nightmare. Paychecks bouncing, toxic management, no HR… you name it, it was an issue. I made some great friends there, and I still go back to visit them, but that job was honestly part of why I stopped writing. It completely drained me, and when I got home, I wanted nothing more than to avoid anything related to the interior design industry. It was so sad!! I love my industry, and I love working with the products in it, but that place sucked the life out of me and the fun out of my work. So, I swiftly departed, and NOW I’m at a new place that is much better 🙂 It is in the tile industry, so slightly different than the last place, but one thing about me is I LOVEEEEE tile so so much. I use it whenever possible on my designs, and to be surrounded with it all day, every weekday is glorious. It has invigorated me, and I am so ready to get back into the interior design world – especially my business and my blog.

New Certification –

It’s official… I am now a Certified Residential Interior Designer! I have been working behind the scenes for the past couple of months to complete a certification program, and after completing the RIDE exam, I finally get to use the title officially 🙂 This is a very exciting step in my career, and I cannot wait to see where it leads me. If you guys have any questions about what this means, please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments.

New Pursuits and New Goals –

Since I have completed a certification program and one exam, I am prepping and starting to apply for a couple of other exciting certifications as well! I am studying for and plan on taking the RIDQC, LEED, and NCIDQ exams in the next couple of months-to-year. RIDQC is a comprehensive exam that covers all important topics needed to be successful in interior design for homeowners. I have already been doing this on my own, so I am ready to put my pen where my mouth is and pass the exam to prove it! The LEED exam is all about sustainability and ethical practices for interior designs (and all other parts of the industry, although I am focusing on interior design for obvious reasons), and since this is a huge passion of my and a focal point for my business, I think this is a necessary and intriguing pursuit for both myself and my company overall. Lastly, the NCIDQ is the big kahuna, the final boss of interior design certifications in the United States. It is an extremely thorough exam that covers all sectors of interior design and is divided into multiple parts. It is the highest honor, the one that is sought after by companies and clients alike, and the greatest test of my knowledge and skills. I am excited (and a little nervous!!) to embark on this multi-step journey to get such a prestigious title as “Mae Dumont, NCIDQ”. Sounds good, right?

Well, that’s the update for now. I’m BACK to posting, and I have a great list of topics planned out for the near future. What would you like me to write about? I want to keep things positive, yet informative, insightful to everyone reading. I have a couple of topics I want to write about that aren’t so exciting, but I feel it needs to be talked about more, but I also have a ton of great, creative, and positive ideas that will hopefully balance it all out.

Stay tuned and thanks for catching up 🙂
