About Dumont Collections and Design, it’s goals as a company, and it’s founder, Mae Dumont!
The Creative:
With certifications in Interior Design (Interior Design Institute) and Fashion Line Development/Management (Cornell University) as well as a BA in Digital Art and Multimedia Design (Pennsylvania State University), I draw from my extensive creative knowledge to execute unique, innovative work that speaks for itself.
Ever since kindergarten, my affinity for the arts was undeniable. I would always have a feature in the art shows, my teachers and family would hang my work on the walls, I helped my mom style her home, and I had a fiery passion for learning new skills. When I thought the finance industry was the more “stable” route to go, I reluctantly (but momentarily) set my paintbrush down to go to business school, but after a few painful semesters, I knew it was not for me. Design was calling me, and I knew my passion for it would never go away so I embraced it!
The Work:
I’m a HUGE proponent of making your space truly yours. Every person is unique, so every home should be unique as well. My goal is to create an aesthetic representation of the beautiful individual who occupies the space—I want the home to scream “this is mine!” for my clients. By combining personal preferences, natural character, and non-traditional solutions, I can transform any space into the perfect oasis, whatever that may look like for you. Art is the captured expression of a person—it reveals their thoughts, emotions, and intentions through their chosen medium. This makes it a powerful aspect of our lives, whether we consciously notice it or not. Because of this deep connection, I integrate art into every possible aspect of my work. Whether I’m creating it, learning about it, commissioning it from others, or simply selecting and curating pieces, art brings an element to design that simply cannot be matched by any other feature.
From the traditional concepts of wabi-sabi (the Japanese concept of beauty within imperfection) to the principles of feng shui to the very fundamentals of design itself, I draw my inspiration from countless sources. I am constantly taking in new philosophies to broaden my vision, and I work to include these teachings into each and every room I work with.
The Goal:
The goal with all of my art is to capture the beauty that this world provides to us every day. All I want to do is turn what can often seem monotonous, such as putting furniture in our homes and painting our walls, into something as stunning as the rest of our lives.
Sustainability: I am fully committed to ensuring my choices are intentional, resourceful, and ethical. I utilize secondhand, thrifted, reclaimed, and vintage products whenever possible with my furnishing choices, conduct extensive research into which materials work best and are most sustainable for each job, make every effort to work with small businesses and local craftsman for commissioned or custom work. I am a firm believer that we only have one Earth, so we should treat her with as much love and respect as she treats us!
Expression: The ability to demonstrate who you are to the world is one of the most exciting and rewarding parts of life. Even if what you enjoy is not mainstream, finding people just like you by expressing your inner self is so fun, so I aim to help every single person I can get closer to feeling that joy. I want to help your home, and your whole being truly represent you!
Aesthetic Meets Function: While the way things look is what most people think of when they think of art, design, and styling, my company is about more than that.; it’s also about function and making sure the design choices we make are functional for your everyday life. Utility does not always have to mean rugged and unappealing, it can be mindfully and skillfully combined with visual interest so you get the best of both w
